We live in an age when many of us aren't aware of what's happening in our city. In Merida, there's a market called 'Lucas de Galvez,' which has been here since the 1950s and is, unfortunately, not getting the promotion it deserves. It is a place where you can get together and enjoy a friendly environment. The people who visit this market, sell stuff, or buy their essential need products.

In the market, you can buy handicrafts and traditional Mexican food, among others. A considerable advantage of the market is that it has a pleasant and favorable environment. It also has serviceable people who increase tourism. Any time you visit, you will find people from other states and countries enjoying their shopping.

When you purchase at the Lucas de Galvez market, you're supporting the economy of many Yucatecan families. Most of the establishments are family businesses, and these may represent their only source of income. Another point worth noting is the importance of protecting their lifestyle as it illustrates our traditions.

The 'Lucas de Galvez' Market has been in function for almost 70 years. That's why this market has become a significant cultural and historical heritage for Merida. As citizens, we should promote this market and care for it, but we sadly don't. Most of the market's infrastructure is in terrible condition, and we need to do something about it.

When it comes to the market building, you can notice cracks in the ceiling, so during the rainy season, water leaks through. Another problem is the putrid smell in some areas. For instance, the parking lot sewers leak, therefore the scent is not at all inviting. Also, there's no proper trash management.

These problems affect the whole market community: the sellers, consumers, and visitors. The sales decrease, consumers look for a more hygienic option, and visitors become disappointed.

In conclusion, we can solve this problem by getting more involved. How? Visit the market and promote it. Let others know about these problems, so we can all help. The government should be aware of what's happening, so let's speak out.

We can't afford to lose this market; it represents the heart and soul of Merida.
